Fatroximin Dry Cow contains the exclusive ansamycin antibiotic rifaximin, which grants to it pharmacokinetic features completely different than other commercially available intramammary products. Studies have shown that passage across the blood-milk barrier is nil, meaning outstanding antibiotic availability in the quarter under treatment. The specific vehicle brings about complete and immediate release of the active ingredient. The antibiotic remains in the udder at high concentrations throughout the dry period and is eliminated at the subsequent lactation in the colostrum so that the actual milk is always residue-free, even at the first milking. No withdrawal times are required for milk or meat. Rifaximin is endowed with high antibacterial activity against Gram-positive (Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Arcanobacterium spp.) and Gram-negative microorganisms (E. coli), moreover, it is highly effective against penicillinase-producing staphylococci. Fatroximin is completely tolerated and does not cause irritation or any kind of adverse reaction. The Twinsert system allows partial or complete insertion into the teat canal according to the user’s needs. INDICATIONS Fatroximin Dry Cow is indicated at the beginning of the dry period of cows, buffaloes and other female large ruminants to treat existing subclinical infections, to prevent infections during the dry period, to prevent acute mastitis outbreaks after parturition.
