Oxytetracycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic active against most Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, Chlamydia, Rickettsia, Mycoplasmas, Actinomycetes and certain protozoans. The pharmacological and pharmacokinetic characteristics and the low toxicity of Oxtra Effervescent Pessaries make the preparation particularly suitable for therapy and prevention of uterine infections. At the recommended doses for Oxtra Effervescent Pessaries, oxytetracycline immediately reaches therapeutically efficacious levels against pathogenic intrauterine bacteria, which persist up to 24-36 hours after administration. The reduced capacity of absorption of oxytetracycline by the uterine wall ensures a localized antibiotic action in the lumen of the organ and the endometrium, site of choice of the required therapeutic effect. INDICATIONS Therapy and prevention of bacterial infections due to microorganisms sensitive oxytetracycline, in particular in retained placenta and endometritis.
