Florfenicol shows promise as a replacement for other broad-spectrum antibacterials such as sulfonamides and tetracyclines that have been associated with toxicity and residue concerns in food animals. Florfenicol is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat infections in aquaculture species as well as a number of livestock species, including bovine, porcine, and chicken.
